Qualitatively not the best picture as I shot this one from roughly 15m distance but spotting a Wombat always makes me happy. After watching him for a while from the distance I tried to get a little closer but stepped on a twig – he looked up for a short moment but then decided to leave in a rush back into the forest. And Wombats can run pretty fast even though they look stocky …
A young and very curious kangaroo 🦘 – spottet on one of my hikes early November in the Churchill National Park. While his mum was hopping away he stopped and had another look at me.
Echidnas are currently pretty active and hence there is a new picture of one I spotted on yesterday’s hike. Did you know that Echidnas blow clear bubbles from their nostrils, in order to clean their nose from dirt, which can accumulate while digging for food?
This little mate was one of the shyer short-beaked Echidnas that I’ve encountered so far. They all have very different behaviours – some are not bothered at all by your presence and others roll together or digging themselves into the soil very quickly when they become aware of you. I only took a few pictures of this cutie and left him alone very quickly to not disturb him, as he obviously didn’t like my attendance that much.
I’ve seen this Echidna on the last few hundred meters of my hike in the Lake Eildon National Park just sitting there and enjoying the sun – before it started to sniff around for some more 🐜 …
Did somebody call me? 🤨
